PRINCIPAL - PAULA MACKENZIE
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We have been blessed with our staff who have volunteered to host Breakfast Club all year. Our staff give their time freely to ensure that our students can enjoy a healthy breakfast and have the time to sit and interact with their fellow students. Whether students come to our morning sessions to eat or just play it is a service we provide free of charge to our parents. As we come to the end of the year we would like to thank and acknowledge the work of our staff and their generosity it is greatly appreciated. As school begins at 8.50am the doors of our school open at 8.30am this gives our students and parents time to visit the classrooms and prepare for the day. Staff come to school early and set up breakfast club every day of the week, often staff arrive at around 7.20am to prepare the meals for our students. We would also like to thank the many parents who have bought in food for the breakfast club this also has been greatly appreciated. This year we have been funded by Coles, each week fresh food is delivered to the door to enable Breakfast club to run. We are very grateful to Coles for their kind donations. It is wonderful to see the partnerships formed in the wider community.
We have been supervising the children for half an hour and we have found that most children finish there breakfast in 15 minutes or less so therefore next year we will begin breakfast club at 8.15am. We are finding a lot of children are still being dropped off very early indeed. Please remember that next year children are not to be dropped off before 8.15am if you need your children looked after we request you make use of Helping Hands as they provide before and after care for your children, leaving them at the front gate is not a safe practice.
KINDERGARTEN PRESENTATION
Next week our beautiful Curtin University Speech Students were holding a presentation for all new Kindergarten Enrolments. They were to give tips to parents, unfortunately this has had to be cancelled due to staffing shortages. They are preparing a handbook for our parents and this will be given out at the Kindergarten Orientation on Monday 4 February at 10.00am. Kindergarten days for 2019 will be both classes, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
LENGTH OF DRESSES
Just a reminder to check your daughters dresses to ensure that the length of the dress is suitable for school life. At this time of the year we notice a number of shortening dress lengths. We want our children to be comfortable in their dresses and when they are too short you can see that the children not at ease.
AGM
Please note that our Annual General Meeting has been postponed until next year in February. We are very sorry for the inconvenience to families. Due to late funding notice we can’t give a full report to parents.
BRAIN FOOD
Developing healthy eating habits is an important lesson that we aim to promote at St Brigids. It is vital that children understand the importance of nutrition in developing physical and mental fitness as well as providing the energy they need to participate actively in life. Food and drink are vital for children to grow and develop, but the types of food that children consume, is important.
At St Brigid’s we encourage students to think about the types of food and drinks they eat in a typical day. Children are often keen to eat healthy foods when they understand that their body needs these foods to grow and develop All students are encouraged to keep up their intake of water with individual water bottles permitted in classrooms. Children need to drink plenty of water, even in cooler weather, to keep their bodies functioning well.
Our curriculum encourages students to think about their own food choices and to realise the importance of healthy eating. We acknowledge that families provide the pivotal role model for children as they learn about food choices, but at school we also need to compliment and encourage the work of families. The end result is healthy children; what more could we all want!
God Bless
Paula MacKenzie

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS NON-PERISHABLE FOOD DRIVE

Every Class will have their own basket where donations can be placed. We also have a special basket in the Front Office for cat & dog food, especially for elderly people who would feed their pet before themselves. CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
We are creating a Christmas raffle to celebrate this joyous time of year. If you would like to contribute to the raffle please contact us or deliver your item to the front office by November 28.

Tickets will be sent home next week – these are optional to purchase. Additional tickets will be also be available to purchase at school. The raffle will be drawn at the End of Year concert on Wednesday 5 December.
We understand that this can be a busy and expensive time of year and whilst we are grateful to everyone who has supported us in 2018, please don’t feel pressured to contribute.
CHRISTMAS GIFT STALL
On Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 November, the P & F will be holding a Christmas gift stall, with lots of lovely yet inexpensive gifts that the children can purchase for their family, friends and loved ones. The gifts range from $1 to $8. Teachers will be allocating times for each class and will let your child know when this is. If your child would like to participate, please send along a small amount of money to school on their allocated day. Teachers will advise the students how they can manage their money for safekeeping.
Any remaining gifts will be available to purchase before and after school from Wednesday, subject to helpers. We will have an EFTPOS machine available for before/after school purchases from the stall.
SCHOOL BANKING
The School Banking program is an important tool to teach our children about saving money and planning for the future. In addition, the program raised a fantastic $1200 in commissions this year, which helped the P&F to fund important resources at St Brigid’s Primary. We would like to thank Kelly and Nicole for all their hard work over the last few years in running the program.
Unfortunately, the School Banking program may have to close next year if we can’t get some new volunteers to help run the program. Please contact Kelly on 0447 051 641 for more information about how you can help.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY NEWS
SCHOOL BANKING

Our school banking day is Wednesday morning from 8am until 8.50am. Come along and see us if you would like to join up and start saving!
WE ARE IN URGENT NEED OF A BANKING VOLUNTEER!
We urgently require one or two people to become banking co-ordinators for our school. What’s involved you ask?
We need someone to be available for about 1 hour on a Wednesday morning between 8am and 9am to take the banking money and slips from the children. After the children bank we enter the deposits in via the banking portal, and balance the money. This is all done on the school grounds. After we balance the school banking money, we drop the money bag off at Commonwealth Bank.
School banking benefits the school and our children and if we don’t get a volunteer or two we may not be able to continue school banking next year.
If you would like to know more, please come and see either Nicole or Kelly on a Wednesday morning or feel free to give Kelly a call on 0447 051 641.
