Imagination is more important than knowledge
Dear Father in heaven,
We thank you for our School, our families, our friends and our environment.
Help us make our School a better place, by being more like St Brigid, who loved, helped, cared and shared.
Thank you for all the people who do things for us.
Bless us all today and everyday. We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, our lord. Amen

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The winter season seems to be upon us at the moment and we are seeing an increase in student’s sickness. Presently we are seeing many of our students sick with the flu or with tummy bugs. Some are coming to school sick and others are falling sick while at school. Please check that you child is well enough for school and please keep them home if they are unwell. Let us hope the flu season leaves us soon.
Grading of Car Park
You may have noticed that presently we are grading the carpark, while this is not our land we are trying to grade the area to make it safer for our parents and caregivers. As the ground becomes softer it is becoming easier to grade. A special thanks to our grounds man Peter Constable and our wonderful volunteer Mr Peter Fowler who have taken on the job of grading this area on a regular basis.
Earn and Learn
Thank you all for participating in the Earn and Learn programme that is currently running.
Woolworths are giving one sticker for every ten dollars spent and these stickers are then turned into maths equipment for our students, it is a very well run programme and we are excited by the equipment we will be able to purchase. If you are collecting thank you so much and if not, it is not too late to begin.
Sport Tops
When children wear their sports tops to school they are no longer required to tuck them in, I understand this has been the practice in the past but beginning now we will be changing the tucking in rule. When children are wearing their normal non sporting uniform we will still require shirts tucked in. If children choose to tuck in all shirts they may do so.
St Vincent De Paul Collection
At the moment we are collecting non-perishable food items for St Vincent De Paul, we have baskets in the front office. We thank all families that are able to help out with this drive. Presently the stocks at St Vincent De Paul are extremely low and your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Breakfast Club Helpers
Breakfast club has been running in our school for the past 7 years and thanks to our staff volunteering it has been running smoothly. We are now asking for parent help so that we can continue to offer this service. Ideally we would love three volumeters per day to replace staff, so that they are able to return to their classrooms to prepare for the day. If this is not possible even one parent a day would be of great assistance. If you are able to help please let the front office know, so far we have one lovely mother volunteer and this is wonderful. If you can help out from 8.00am until 8.30am please let us know.
Bed Time Routines
How much sleep is enough for your child?
Research indicates that children 6 to 9 years old need 10 to 11 hours sleep a night; 10 to 12 year olds need an average 9 to 10 hours sleep and adolescents need 8 to 9 hours sleep each night, however there may be times when they need more or less.
How do you know if your child is getting adequate sleep? Sleep deprivation can add up over time.
An hour less per night adds up to a full night’s sleep by the end of the week.
Lack of sleep can mean your child:
Therefore, lack of sleep can contribute to your child experiencing more difficulty with managing their day and gathering the confidence and positive experiences they need to develop a sense of achievement and happiness.
Creating a bedtime routine can assist children develop healthy sleeping habits. Younger children need parents to set a bedtime routine:

There is no set way to help your child become a good sleeper, but with the right supports, every child can become a good sleeper. The important thing is to be persistent and consistent with your bedtime routines.
God Bless

Our Year Five Classes will be hosting this weekend’s mass at St Brigid’s Parish, Midland, on Sunday 16 June at 9.30am. All families are invited to attend and support our children with this Parish-School initiative.
Sacramental Dates 2019
Year 4 First Eucharist – Sunday 23 June 2019 (11.00am)
Year 6 Confirmation – Sunday 8 September 2019 (11.00am)
Birds of Prey Incursion:
The Year Five Classes enjoyed a wonderful experience on yesterday as part of their Science and Literacy Programs with a Birds of Prey Incursion. The children got up ‘close and personal’ with Falcons, Kites, Owls and a Wedge Tailed Eagle! Much was learned about these often maligned raptors. A special thank you Yvonne Sitko from the Western Australian Birds of Prey Centre, for introducing our students to these amazing animals.
REPORTING (YEARS 1-6)
Students from Years One to Six will be designated a letter from A – E to indicate their progress. It is important to remember that the grade will reflect the level of achievement that is expected for that year level for that point in time. The A – E grade scale summarises the standard of achievement associated with each learning area. The table below provides an explanation of the achievement descriptor for each letter grade.
|
Letter Grade |
Achievement Descriptor |
|
A Excellent |
The student demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year level. |
|
B High |
The student demonstrates high achievement of what is expected for this year level. |
|
C Satisfactory |
The student demonstrates satisfactory achievement of what is expected for this year level |
|
D Limited |
The student demonstrates limited achievement of what is expected for this year level. |
|
E Very Low |
The student demonstrates very low achievement of what is expected for this year level. |
It is important to note that the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) reporting policy indicates that the allocation of a grade for an individual student should describe the level of achievement that is expected for their year level at that point in time. Students do not need to be working ‘above their year level’ to achieve an ‘A’ grade. All schools in WA are bound by this SCSA policy.
REPORTING (PRE-PRIMARY)
Students in Pre-Primary receive a description of their achievement. The table below provides an explanation of the achievement descriptions.
|
Pre-Primary Achievement Descriptors |
|
The student demonstrates exceptional achievement given the expectations for this year level. |
|
The student has exceeded the achievement expected for this year level. |
|
The student demonstrates the expected achievement for this year level. |
|
The student is working towards the achievement expected for this year level. |
|
The student has not yet demonstrated the expected achievement for this year level. |
Maintaining a level in a learning area from one semester to the next is an indication of positive achievement and expected development.
If your child receives an “expected”, they are achieving at the required level for their year. The descriptors summarise the standard of achievement in each of the reported learning areas. The scale describes the depth of knowledge, understandings and skills that children working at that standard typically show.
Semester One reports will be accessible online on Tuesday 2 July. More information regarding Semester One reports will feature in coming newsletters.
PRE-PRIMARY REPORTING WORKSHOP
Our Pre-Primary reports will look a little different this year, to fall in line with Catholic Education Western Australia reporting requirements. We will be presenting a short workshop in the library on Thursday 20 June at 9am. This workshop will unpack the reporting process and provide you with a greater understanding of the reporting template used here at St Brigid’s Primary School. Please come along if you would like any extra information regarding Pre-Primary reporting.

Final week to collect stickers
Thank you so much to all of our wonderful community that have supported the Woolworths Earn and Learn drive so far.
We have had just over 12,000 stickers earnt since the start of this promotion,
and our target goal is 20,000. This is the final week that we can collect stickers
– with the promotion ending on the 25th June. Let’s see if we can do this!!!
For the next week, if we can all make the effort to do some shopping at our local Woolworths store and collect as many stickers as possible, it will help us to get some valuable new maths resources. What a great benefit this will have on all of our students. Maybe even ask your families and friends if they can collect for our school also. There are collection boxes at Midland Gate Woolworths, Centrepoint Woolworths, and inside the office.
WE CAN DO THIS!!!
