Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This week we saw our swimming lessons begin in earnest with our Pre-Primary, Year One and Year Two classes travelling down to the pool each day. The children seem very excited and are enjoying the lessons, which is great to see. Upon returning to school it is wonderful to see happy faces and children helping each other. This is a wonderful opportunity for all children to gain these necessary skills.
Positive Parenting Program

We were delighted last Friday to be able to provide the Triple P seminar for our parents we had a wonderful turn out of parents and I know that our families found it very interesting. I have spoken with Tonya who ran the session for our school and she is planning to come again next term to hold another session for our parent’s. We will keep you informed. On the dates and times.
Faction Field Events 3-6
On Thursday we held our Faction Field Events and they were a great success. Our students all tried so hard on the day and performed so well on the field. It was wonderful to see so many parents coming and supporting their children, I know our students love to have their parents there on the day to watch them excel. Congratulations to Mr Sam Harris our amazing Sport teacher who organised the day and made sure it ran smoothly. A big thank you to all the staff and helpers on the day who made sure that all stations ran smoothly. These days are so special to our school and students and it is sensational to have such great support.

NAPLAN Results
This week are NAPLAN results have been sent to the school for distribution to parents. This is wonderful news and I know that many of our Parents are looking forward to sitting down with their children to discuss the results. We have placed all the reports in envelopes to protect them and they will be sent home on Monday with your child. NAPLAN results are only for students in Year three and Year Five. Please check your child’s bag to ensure that you have the results. Congratulations to all our students who sat the NAPLAN and we hope that these results are a true reflection of you good work.
Pre-Kindergarten enrolments for 2020
Presently we are holding enrolments for our Pre-Kindergarten Program for 2020 if you have a child that turns three next year they are able to join in our Three Year Old Program. It is a full day program with an early year’s teacher and teacher assistant. It is a wonderful program that helps to prepare your child for Kindergarten the following year. We have begun the enrolments and are just informing parents of the program. We require 16 students to run the program so applications are open now.
Kindergarten Enrolments
We have held most of our Kindergarten enrolments for 2020 and we only have a few spots left so please make sure if you have a child that you wish to join the Kindergarten classes for next year that they are enrolled them as we would hate for any child to miss out.
AGM – Annual General Meeting

Dear parents and caregivers we will be holding our AGM on Wednesday 20th November at 7.00pm in MacKillop Hall. All parents and caregivers are encouraged to come to the AGM and learn about what is happening in our school community. You will learn about the programs that are run in the school such as our early intervention programs Mac Lit and Mini Lit as well as IT program for the next three years. You will hear about our NAPLAN results and our master plans for the schools. You will also discover our plans for the future and you will be introduced to our Strategic plan for the next three years. You will hear from our Board Chair as well as our President of the P & F. Learn about the wonderful things that are happening in our school and the plans for 2020.
AGM nominations
Next year we have our beloved treasurer Mr Steve Carter stepping down from the Board. It has been wonderful having Steve help us with our finances during the last two years. As his children have now moved onto to La Salle College we are now inviting someone who has a background in finance to consider applying for the Board to help us in this very important role. We are in the process of moving from cash to accrual therefore knowledge in this area would be helpful. We will also have another member stepping down so nomination forms will be in the front office for those who would like to nominate. In 2021 we are hoping to move forward with a new build therefore if someone in our community had a background in building it may be useful. Everyone is welcome to apply we look forward to hearing from you.
SMS
Very often we need to get in contact with our parents to ensure they have information that will help their child. We have been in the habit of sending our SMS messages. The cost of these messages is high and as a school we cannot afford to continue sending out messages therefore we are asking parents to check the newsletter and the APP as these are the main ways we will be contacting parents with school information. You will discover the SMS messages will reduce next term. We hope this will not inconvenience our parents as we have the newsletter and the APP.
Being a Good Friend
Friendship is defined as the caring relationship which exists between two or more people. Having friends is important to everyone, so helping your child to develop skills in establishing good friendships is an important parental role; one which is supported at school. Much is said about the traditional ‘three R’s’ in education, but there are really ‘four R’s’ and the fourth ‘R’ is relationships. School is about learning to live as a community member, and relationships and friendships are the glue that keeps communities together.
Here are some ideas and advice for developing healthy friendships:

- Be honest and truthful.
- Be there when your friend needs you; be helpful.
- Respect people’s feelings and belongings.
- Share your feelings and be a good listener.
- Be kind and caring.
- Invite people to join in your games and activities.
- Never talk about people when they are not there.
- Always keep your promises.
- Be prepared to forgive and forget; it is human to make mistakes.
- Ask for help when you need it.
- BE the kind of friend you’d like to have.
Making and keeping friends requires a lot of effort. It’s not always easy and sometimes friends do things which are hurtful. A good friendship is one in which the people involved all work together to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone. Be prepared to step in and help your child if you sense that their friendships are not appropriate or suitable. Talk to your child’s teacher if you are unsure.
May God Bless You

PARENT AND CAREGIVER SURVEY – PARENT VOICEYou are invited to participate in a survey about our school’s climate. Similar surveys will be administered to staff and students to enable us to capture a community snapshot. All responses are confidential and will be used for school improvement purposes. Completion of the survey is on a voluntary basis. The survey is open from 23 September 2019 until 23 October 2019.
Your confidentiality
To protect your confidentiality all surveys are anonymous. All answers go directly to the National School Improvement Partnerships, where the results are analysed for your school. Answers from individual surveys will NOT be reported back to the school. Staff of the National School Improvement Partnerships staff are bound by a Code of Ethics and follow strict professional conduct.
Use of the data
National School Improvement Partnerships will report the results to the school in an aggregated format so that individuals cannot be identified. To enable drill-down reporting, the information provided to the school will contain data based on background information.
How to complete the survey
You will be asked whether you are completing the survey for an individual child or as a family. If the experiences of your children are similar, then responding once will suffice. If, however, your children are experiencing very different learning environments then you might want to answer separately for each child.
The survey contains statements about practices which could take place in this school. For each statement, you are asked to indicate how often the statement takes place.
There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers. Your opinion is what is wanted.
Please be sure to answer all questions. Some statements in may be fairly similar to other statements. Don't worry about this. Simply give your opinion about all statements. Please go to www.NSIPartnerships.com.au and enter the access code SBPS19P. If you require more information or have any questions, please contact the NSI Team. Your time and consideration are much appreciated
LEARNING JOURNEY
Our annual Learning Journey will be taking place on Wednesday 25 September beginning at 3:30pm and concluding at 6:00pm. This is an opportunity to celebrate the learning that has taken place in your child’s classroom over the course of the term. I encourage all parents and caregivers to attend this important event. Please note that our Learning Journey is an opportunity for you and your child to engage in conversations about their presented work samples. This event is not an appropriate time for conversations with your child’s teacher about your child’s academic progress. If you require a conversation of this nature, please make an appointment with your child’s teacher for a different time.
CODE OF CONDUCT
This week our focus is on ‘Conduct Statement Three’. You act in accordance with the values of the Gospel as defined in the Code of Ethical Conduct.
This Conduct Statement means that you are mindful that your decisions and behaviour are opportunities for students and others to see Gospel values in action and how faith integrates with life. You acknowledge that as a member of a Catholic school community, you are required to strive to develop and live out your relationships with all people in a manner that is based on Gospel values as defined in the CECWA Code of Ethical Conduct.
The following examples are some of the way’s parents can adhere to Conduct Statement Three:
- Speak respectfully to all students, staff and community members.
- Model respectful behaviour always, towards all within our school community.
- Avoid being involved in gossip.
- Support the school by trying to attend school Masses and liturgical celebrations.
TERM DATESTerm Three concludes on Friday 27 September for students and staff.
Term Four resumes on Monday 14 October for students and staff.
Term Four concludes on Friday 13 December for students and Friday 20 December for staff. The last five days for staff are utilised for professional development, handover and finalising school priorities for the following year.

Faction Field Events Carnival 2019
Yesterday, we had our Faction Field Events Carnival for 2019, where our students from Years 3 to 6 competed in a range of athletic events which had been practised and trialled throughout Term 3. This carnival is an opportunity for students to demonstrate the skills which they have acquired throughout the term, in a competitive event which scores points for their factions for the Inter House Athletics Carnival to be held in Term 4.
I must congratulate all of our competitors for not just their amazing efforts, but also their encouragement of their peers across all events and their terrific sportsmanship throughout the day. The feedback I received from all the parent helpers and our staff was extremely positive, and I am proud of everyone who did their best and had fun yesterday.
Yesterday would not have been possible without the assistance of the parents who offered their support and time to make sure that the carnival was a success for all of our competing students. To Mrs Kingma, Mr Firns, Mrs McGill, Miss Mol, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Touchell, I sincerely thank you for being involved in our carnival because without your help the day would not have been able to go ahead as it did. Thank you for braving the cool conditions to be a part of our carnival and I am very grateful to get the opportunity to work with all of you.
Thank you also to our awesome staff who ensured that our students were prepared for their events and were well organised whilst out of their classrooms for the carnival. Your support is always a major part of any carnival day and it is always a pleasure working with everyone.
Finally to our amazing Year 6 students who measured, timed and did everything that was asked of them. I am so proud of you all and the maturity and initiative which you have displayed at events such as these this year has been of the highest order. I hope you continue to maintain such a high standard of leadership for the remainder of this year.
I look forward to seeing all members of the school community on the 24th of October (Term 4, Week 2) for our final carnival of the year. I know all of our students from Years 3 to 6 are very excited, and your support will go a long way to creating a fun and memorable atmosphere for all who are going to be involved.

We had another super DJ who busted out some great tunes and made sure everyone was up and grooving. We hope all the students enjoyed the night. A great way to end the week. Thanks so much to all the staff that came along and helped out - even enjoying a little boogie as well. It's so good to see you come along and have a bit of fun. We really appreciate your support. A big thank you to Paula and Luke for being there as well and for your never-ending support. Thank you also to all the wonderful parents that helped out before, during and after. Thanks so much to Jo and Jenny for all their hard work and outstanding organisational skills behind the scenes, the decorations were magic. A big thank you as well to the ex-students who came along to help from La Salle. It's always so lovely to know they enjoy coming back to offer their time and support. And finally.. thanks to all the students who came along, enjoyed themselves, dressed up and danced the evening away.... we even had some pretty fabulous Karaoke happening throughout the night.
